Technical Breakdown

Here’s a technical break down showing a tool I created during the production of my latest setup. Apologies for my voiceover!!

BSpirit Woes Solved…

I’ve been using BSpiritCorrectiveShape for a few years now. I always had this one issue: for some reason it would simply stop working when I’d go to generate a corrective shape. It would usually happen down the line once my rigs got more complex.
The work around was to remove some of the deformer history (like blendshapes!) until it worked, then rebuild the history.

Anyway, I discovered today that the issue occurs when your setup contains multiple tweak nodes. Even if one of your blendShape targets has a tweak on it, it might cause an issue. Its because when the script goes to find ‘the correct’ tweakNode, it doesn’t distinguish between them.

The tweak that BSpirit needs to work with is the one connected directly to the skinCluster.

Rig Demo

Well here’s what I came up with..

2011 Demoreel Dilemma

So what kind of facial rigging reel gets someone into film?

I got a small amount of interest from my 2010 rigging reel, but was ultimately denied because I didn’t have enough ‘realistic’ work demonstrated.
So. I’ve set aside 3 weeks to build a new reel.
I’ve got some new ideas on how to control the shapes for a joint based facial rig better, but that would be pushing more down the cartoony route. What I want to do is run a Pose Space Deformation system along side my joint based rig. I was quite excited to see LBrush from Joe Alter who created Shave and a Haircut. Its in Beta phase right now and only seems to work on joint rotations but hopefully it will be ready for when I begin work.

Hey, welcome to my site! I’m in the process of overhauling everything so bear with me!
